All volunteers need to go through a one hour orientation that RAIN hosts every other month on the second Thursday. Please check our calendar for the next volunteer orientation.

Client Volunteers

Network Volunteers
You will be matched up with your specific skills, time, etc. with a specific need of a HIV positive client(s). Network Volunteers could network with: RAIN staff, Hospice, hospitals or other facilities, other volunteers or CareTeams; or with other ASOs (AIDS Service Organization). You could also network to provide transportation; help with special projects; or support clients with end stage AIDS issues.

Traditional CareTeam Volunteers
This is our principal volunteer program. CareTeams are groups of individuals from congregations or other caring groups who are trained by RAIN to provide psychosocial support to persons living with HIV/AIDS (CarePartners/clients). Groups of individuals form relationships with their CarePartner and provide support through practical, emotional, and spiritual services and provide companionship and transportation to appointments and special events.

Client Event CareTeam Volunteers
Client Event CareTeam Volunteers assist with the planning, coordinating and executing six to eight client socials per year (including our Summer Picnic and our Thanksgiving Dinner). This would involve working with RAIN staff to secure location, plan the program, arrange food donation/preparation, coordinate transportation, etc.

Client Volunteers will need to attend an additional training session to learn about many aspects of HIV/AIDS such as current statistics, universal precautions, social and emotional impact of the disease, and spirituality of HIV/AIDS.

Administrative Volunteers

Administrative Volunteers help in various ways, from assisting at the RAIN offices with data entry, research and cleaning up records, mass mailings, and general office support to assisting the Administrative, Development and Program  Departments.  This important assistance helps ensures that the "little" things get done so that we can continue to provide services to our clients. As an Administrative Volunteer you will have the opportunity to work with RAIN staff in areas such as fundraising and client services. It is a great way to help out and let your administrative skills blossom and shine!

Resource Compilation and Updating
RAIN provides referrals to local resources on a daily basis; these referrals are in constant need of updating and checking. along with updating our media contacts to verify contact information.

Event Volunteers

Event Volunteers are needed on several occasions through out the year for our key fundraising events: AIDS WALK Charlotte, Dining with Friends, and Bars Against AIDS Respond. Assistance is also needed with other fundraisers that develop during the year.
